Presidents' Day

Taken at Les Madeleines last Saturday
Nothing like a perfect cup of coffee on a somewhat-unexpected day off!

This morning I tinkered with our little coffee grinder a bit - despite it working perfectly when we received it, everything's been coming out way too coarse, no matter how I adjusted the settings lately- and now it's just as great as ever. I'd missed having my morning french press or mini-americano!

I just got back from taking Owen out to play with his little best friend, Zoe, up at Tanner Park and now I'm just waiting to hear back from Jenn so we can make an Ikea run! Those two dogs have the best time together. I'm hoping to find a small-ish [and cheap!] bookcase that will work in our bedroom and provide some hidden storage for our never-ending cd/dvd/video game collections. Right now we have a nightstand on my side of the bed, and this huge mirror just leaning against the wall on Devon's side. It makes a great getting ready station for me so I can sit on the floor and watch Netflix through the mirror, but it isn't the most aesthetically-pleasing thing and certainly wasn't meant to be there 3+ years! I'm hoping the bookcase will work out and even out the space on Devon's side without looking too goofy. Finding some cabinets to go above our washer and dryer [they share a space with our master bathroom] would be wonderful too. Funny the plans you make when you first purchase a home that take years to get around to! I actually just replaced our $5 temporary paper blinds from when we first moved in with drapes a week or so ago. We half-live like dorm kids sometimes, what can I say.

Smitten Kitchen just posted a recipe for Italian Stuffed Cabbage a few minutes ago that I can't wait to try. Devon's had to work such late hours at work that they've provided everyone dinners for the past little while. Sometimes it's hard to justify messing up half the kitchen just to cook dinner for myself, but it sure is a better alternative to cereal scrounging at the end of the day!

I've had this song by HAIM stuck in my head for days - Devon plays it whenever he tries to work from home :) I wasn't crazy about it at first, but their weird dancing and 90's-reminiscent riffs won me over.

Last week's chippy Valentine's nails - would you believe that was my first time ever actually going on a date on Valentine's Day?! Normally we avoid the crowds that day like the plague.
Wish me luck on our Ikea trip - it's always a marathon, never a sprint with that place!
